About Foothills School Division
FSD serves the learning needs of approximately 8,000 students in junior kindergarten (pre-kindergarten) through grade 12, and employs more than 900 teachers and support staff.
Located on the City of Calgary’s southern border within the Municipal District of Foothills, the Division encompasses the Towns of Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond and Turner Valley as well as the communities served by our Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights (DeWinton), Longview, Millarville and Red Deer Lake (south Calgary) schools.
Governed by a publicly-elected Board of Trustees, FSD operates 19 public schools, three Hutterite Colony schools, as well as open campus locations providing academic and behavioural support programs.
FSD also operates its own fleet of 80 buses serving approximately 70 bus routes. More than half of our student population is transported daily with our bus fleet traveling an average of 11,500 kilometres each day. In addition, FSD has a dedicated Facility Services department, which serves all of FSD schools and offices.
As a public school division, we are here to improve learning for ALL students and develop the WHOLE child. Our student body reflects the communities we serve and we offer a rich variety of innovative programs and services to meet the needs and interests of a broad spectrum of learners, including:
We are committed to academic excellence and our students consistently achieve outstanding results in all areas of education:academics, the arts, athletics, and career and technology instruction.Together with strong character education, we believe these are all equally important contributors to the development and future employability of our students.
We have safe and caring learning environments for our students and focus on developing healthy, respectful relationships at all levels – with our students, school families and employees.
We have highly skilled teaching and support staffs in our schools and throughout our Division who are focused on our common goal of “Improving Learning for ALL Students.” We also encourage and support ongoing learning for all staff to continually enhance student learning and success. To help instill a passion for lifelong learning in our students, we believe it is vital for our staff to lead by example.
We are committed to ongoing stakeholder engagement and consultation – with our students, school families, school councils, teachers and communities – to help our children realize their full potential.
We are proud of our Foothills Family, a culture distinguished by a real sense of community and friendship, where we support one another and celebrate each other’s successes.
